Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya was established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009 is a Central University of India, located in Bilaspur C.G. State. It was formerly called Guru Ghasidas University (GGU) and was established by an act inaugurated on June 16, 1983 known as Act of the State Legislative Assembly. The jurisdiction of the university is spread over Bilaspur Revenue Division of the state of Chhattisgarh and it is a residential cum affiliating institution. Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is an active member of Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of Indian Universities. University is named after the great Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas who waged a relentless struggle and championed the cause of the downtrodden against all forms of social evils and injustice prevailing in the society.
