
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), arranged at Thiruvananthapuram is a Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. IIST works as a self-sufficient body under the Department of Space, Government of India. The possibility of such an establishment was mooted remembering the requirement for superb labor for the Indian Space Research Organization, one of world's driving logical associations occupied with space research and space applications. The establishment is the first of its sort in the nation, to offer amazing training at the undergrad, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels on territories with extraordinary concentration to space sciences, space innovation and space applications. IIST was officially introduced on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, the then Chairman, ISRO and was briefly housed in the premises of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, close from where ISRO fabricated and propelled its first rocket. Both the establishing fathers of the foundation, Dr G Madhavan Nair and Dr B.N. Suresh, the last being the principal Director of IIST, assumed a significant job in the arrangement of the organization, encouraging its foundation and adding to its vision. Dr B.N. Suresh guided the organization from the origination of the plan to its acknowledgment in a lasting grounds close Thiruvananthapuram in 2010.
