Nestled in a quiet corner of busy locality in South Kolkata, Deshbandhu College for Girls has continually contributed to the spread of higher education among women for more than fifty years. The college is affiliated to Calcutta University, one of the oldest universities in India established in 1857 and known by its high standards countrywide.The college has a very peaceful ambience ideal for serious academic pursuits. The infrastructure is adequate to make the students comfortable. It has a well stocked library with a rich reference section and a departmental library for each of the departments offering Honours course. The departments have several audio-visual teaching aids to make learning enjoyable and beneficial to the students. The college also has high-end computer laboratories to equip the students with the technical advancements.We have opened a girls’ hostel inside the college premises that provides comfortable accomodation for students coming from distant areas.We are also in the process of providing the students with a new canteen and common room block.The college offers both Honours and General Degree Courses in most of the major subjects in the Humaniities. It also offers Honours Degree Course in Commerce and a professional and employment-oriented course like BBA. Besides studies, the college also takes particular care in developing the overall personality of the students. Cultural functions, sports , academic seminars career cunseling programmes and a host of student activities are held throughout the academic sessions.

Computer Laboratory
Considering today's need for computerization, our College is proud to have all the infrastructure facilities in certain faculties such as Commerce, Geography and Mathematics. These departments have their own computer laboratories with modern equipment and necessary software (Microsoft Office, Mathematica, Matlab, Latex, C++ software, etc.) to meet the needs of students. In addition, the library also has an e resource center, which provides access to e resources among other things.
Library
Shahid Bhagat Singh College has a fully computerized barcode library. The library has a computer lending system with barcodes. We have two computers dedicated to OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) book searches. This collection is enriched by his over 86,796 books on various research fields. The library also subscribes to over 100 of his periodicals in various fields (national and international, specifically Harvard Business Review, The Economist, etc.). The library also has a small computer lab for accessing electronic resources subscribed to by the College of Delhi through the College's intranet and the Internet. The Library also holds orientation programs from time to time and provides orientation in electronic resources for accessing bibliographic databases and full text databases available through the College's intranet and the INFLIBNET Consortium and Information Literacy Program. Students are encouraged to inquire about various library services with Dr. Puja Anand Gulati, Librarian.
Canteen
The College campus has a spacious and well ventilated canteen building with ample seating, separate from the academic blocks. We provide students and faculty with a variety of snacks, food, tea, coffee, and other beverages at low prices. The canteen committee monitors food quality, care and hygiene. A proposal to renovate the cafeteria was recently approved by the Building Committee and Board of Directors.
Seminar Rooms
The College has two seminar rooms equipped with state of the art equipment. The College organizes seminars, workshops and lectures with the active participation of students and teachers. Prominent scientists and experts from academic and business organizations are invited to interact with students and give lectures.
