Dispur Law College Was established in the year 1993. Aspiring to impart quality legal education, the college started functioning at the Gopal Boro Govt. H.S. School, Dispur, on 1st of February 1994. With the donation of the land neighboring to the historic Secretariat Building of Assam, by Smti Madhuri Das, wife of Late Dharmananda Das, I.A,S. (Retd), then Chief Secretary to the Govt of Assam and Sri Dalim Chandra Pathak, Advocate, the College was able to construct its own building. The foundation stone of the college building was laid by the then Chief Minister of Assam Karmashri Late Hiteswar Saikia on 9th March 1995. Since 1995, the college has been holding classes in its own building.
Almost with the two decades of experiment and experience, the College is thriving towards an excellent legal institution in the whole of North Eastern region. Dispur Law College’s outstanding faculty and extraordinarily gifted students and alumni, its prodigious resources and its prime location at the heart of the Capital of Assam, Dispur, all contribute to its leading role role in the regional legal education. The college today continues to be an exceptional institution with top position in rank from Gauhati University exclusively inspiring for the students of law. DLC aims at pioneering the legal aspirant with the sprit of competitiveness and innovativeness, enriching their knowledge and elevating their self-confidence and thereby expecting to have manifold qualities and knowledge not only of law but also of other disciplines which have relevance in understanding the socio-economic and political realities of the world at large.

Library
The library plays a significant role in an academic institution. The society needs a library for imparting better education, both formal and non-formal. The College library has a sufficient collection of books in the form of text and reference. Currently, the College Library is situated with the College's main building. In addition, important Magazines, Journals, and Newspapers are regularly subscribed. There is also a facility for Reading Room in the main library itself. For better learning, the provision of Computer facility and E-library is also going on. The students have issued library cards for borrowing books from the library subject to Library Rules.
Girls Hostel
Hostel accommodation for girl students only will be available in the College. After admission, the students desirous of availing hostel accommodation may apply to the concerned authority in a separate prescribed application form available in the office on payment of Rs. 100/-(rupees hundred) perform. Those seeking admission into the hostel will have to pay a separate admission fee and have to follow hostel rules. For the time being the intake capacity of the hostel is twenty (22) only.
I.T Infrastructure
The College has a computer laboratory with 30 seats at present and has been attached to the College main building.
Auditorium
The College auditorium, with a sitting capacity of 500 students was constructed with the Financial Assistance from UGC and is used for holding various competitions during the College Youth Festival along with other cultural programs besides seminars and meetings.
Sports
The College has a play ground within the campus which is large enough for all outdoor games and for all athletic events. Multi Gym and indoor stadium for holding various Gymnasium and indoor events are under construction.
Parking Facility
The College has an affordable parking shed for cars, bikes, bicycles of College employees and within the College campus and for Students outside the campus.
Laboratories
The college has a departmental based laboratory facility for the students.
Guest Room/Waiting Room
The college has a guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.
Cafeteria
The College has a well-furnished and hygienic canteen for teachers and students on the campus which provides healthy and nutritious food for refreshment. It usually functions from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. in all working days.

Different Roles, Different Names Criminal Lawyer: Specialises in criminal laws CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act and various other penal laws. Civil Litigation Lawyer: Specializes in civil laws e.g. taxation laws, excise laws. Legal Analyst: Works for corporate firms or law firms and analyses laws pertaining to the sphere of the company and its operation. Document Drafting Lawyer: Specialises in drafting various documents containing agreements, terms and conditions, case material, etc. Legal Journalist: Covers crime beats, legal proceedings in courts, arbitration courts, international courts and arbitration events. Legal Advisor: Offers consultancy to corporate firms regarding their legal obligations, duties, legal relations with other firms.Placements of the college are quite impressive. But it is yet to take the high pace as it is supposed to be. Most of the students get chances of practicing under some senior advocates. And some get chances to do practice in district courts. Even some get chances to assist senior advocates privately. Almost 80% of the students get placed.
