A few months later, the premises of the university were shifted to the present permanent location.
Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rava (Rabha) donated an ancestral estate of 2500 bigha of land area received from the British government in favour of the peasants. The present-day Tezpur University stands on the land donated by him. Recently, in the year 2013, the university acquired an additional plot of land, extending the current plot.
Cosmopolitan Community
At present approximately 4129 candidates are on campus consisting of Male (58.5 %) and Female (41.5 %). We have diverse candidate groups from all corners of the India including states like Bihar, Maharashtra, J and K, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, West Bengal. We have a maximum number of candidates from the state of Assam belonging to different ethnic and indigenous groups.
The Institute also has foreign candidates from different countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Ethiopia, Palestine, Botswana, and Sierra Leone amongst others.
Wide Choice of Courses
The Institute prepares a detailed academic calendar at the beginning of every academic year and all activities are carried out while strictly adhering to the same. Each academic programme of the University comprises a set of Courses, some of which are core and others are elective. Flexibility exists for candidates to opt for elective Courses on their own choices from a pool. Candidates are also required to register for some interdisciplinary Courses as open elective under the Choice Based Credit System. The study Courses across the Departments are designed in such a way that multiple teaching pedagogies can be incorporated in delivering the contents of a study Course.
The medium of instruction and exams at all the levels in the University is English, except for the courses on languages such as Hindi, Assamese, Chinese, German, etc. In framing the study courses, care is taken so that candidates are NOT burdened with formal lectures only. There is adequate provision for the seminars, tutorials, case studies, guided field work, etc., whatever is necessary, to promote the habit of independent thinking.
To relate theoretical knowledge to the practical field, proper measures are taken to conduct case studies and guided field works from the real-life problems. Group Discussion is also used as a teaching pedagogy to increase the analytical capability and creativity of the candidates.
