Janata Mahavidyalaya was started by Hon’ble Shri S.B. JIWATODE GURUUJI in the year 1958 to educate the students especially belonging to socially and economically backward sections of the society. Initially, under-graduate courses in Arts and Commerce were introduced. In the year 1961, under-graduate courses in Science were also introduced. It was the lone college in the combined Chandrapur-Gadchiroli District when it was established.
In the year 1971, Post-graduate course was started in Commerce and in the year 1980 in Arts (Political Science and Economics) considering the need of the students. The college has recently been Re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, with B-Grade with 2.67 CGPA.The college has specious and well equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Home Economics, Geography, Microbiology and Computer Science and experienced faculty members.Considering the changing trends and advancement of technology, the management felt it necessary to introduce the subjects Computer Science and Microbiology and they were introduced in the year 1994 at under graduate level. Separate Laboratories were established for these subjects as per the norms of the university. Apart from the staff appointed for these subjects, experienced members from other nearby are invited to deliver lectures on topics of interest.Janata Mahavidyalaya has a library with a stock of about 50,000 books of different subjects. These include text books and reference books. The college subscribes to journals of repute. Finding that the present Library is insufficient to accommodate the increasing number of books, the management has approached university grants commission with a proposal for assistance. UGC has approved the proposal and sanctioned assistance. The Library hall and reading room were constructed on the first floor.

Placements are the main reason for students to apply for this college. This college offers an excellent number of jobs to their students. 3lakh per annum are the average packages after graduating from the college. 70% students get placement after graduation. My plans after degree is to complete post graduation from Pune.
Most of the students can apply for placement in the last sem of the degree. Companies such as TCS, Infosys, and Deloitte, came for on-campus placement and around 40-50% of students got placed. The highest package offered was 3.5 LPA by Deloitte and whereas Lowest offered was 1.9 LPA by TCS. I planned of pursuing further studies after my graduation and took admission in a post-graduation course or MCA.
Placements are provided by our college for biotechnology, electronics etc. Roles offered by the companies to students are fresher jobs or internships. An average number of students got placed from our college. About 75% of the students get placed from our college.Students after bachelor of science don't have a lot of job opportunities right after bachelor's. Thus placements are not provided in the same field of education. Even if the campus drives do take place, they were mostly for very a less salary package in the back end position of a company like Wipro, tcs etc.
