University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University is a premier institute of pharmaceutical education and research assigned NIRF Rank 2 in the country. The institute set up in the pre-independent India, at Lahore, in 1944 has a prestigious and long history. The institute hosted Pharmaceutical Sciences Oration by a Nobel Laureate, Prof. Ben Feringa and other mega events including global alumni meet to commemorate its Platinum Jubilee Year in 2019. Stanford University, USA, listed 8 faculty of UIPS among the top 2% scientists across the globe in the field of Pharmacy & Pharmacology. The faculty has been honoured with prestigious awards like Amrut Mody Research Foundation Award, Ranbaxy Research Award, Lifetime achievement awards, UNIDO Scientific Adviser, DBT Technology award, OPPI awards, BRICS Technology award, Best Teacher Awards, US-Fullbright fellowship, Commonwealth & BOYSCAST fellowships to name a few. Professor Emeritus of UIPS, Late Professor Harkishan Singh, an iconic figure and a pharmacy legend, was bestowed with Padma Shri, in 2017. More than 1800 graduates, almost 1300 Postgraduates and 255 Ph.Ds are the proud alumni of the institute. We are proud of our best-placed, world renowned alumni occupying highest positions of Presidents and CEO in multinational and national pharma industry, research organizations, CSIR labs, academia and drug control administration. Students of UIPS perform excellently in National tests like GPAT and other professional and social contests, and a usual of 100% employment. UIPS has been accorded SAP/DSA, COSIST, CAS & DST-FIST by various national agencies. We are the only pharmacy institute in the country assigned UGC-NRC program. Mission of the latter is to empower pharmacy teachers across the nation by sharing knowledge, infrastructure, and expertise available at UIPS. Library
The College Library building centrally air-conditioned and equipped with a computer and communication network houses more than six lakh volumes and has a seating accommodation of 500 readers. Besides the two main reading halls, there are reading rooms in the Periodicals and Special Collections Sections, and an Outer Reading Hall for studying personal books. There is a provision of 24 research carrels for teachers engaged in serious research work, and 90 lockers for research scholars. The Library has a collection of over 6.4 lakh publications which include books, bound volumes of journals, theses/dissertations, rare books, reports, government documents, backfiles of newspapers, and a prized collection of 1490 manuscripts.
Boys Hostel
The College has 17 hostels (8 for boys) to accommodate nearly 6700 students.
Girls Hostel
The College has 17 hostels (9 for girls) to accommodate nearly 6700 students. There also exists one Working Women hostel with a capacity to accommodate 70 residents.
Medical/Hospital
The Institute of Health caters to the medical needs of about 40,000 employees and their dependents, students of all the departments, all boys and girls residing in hostels, daily wagers, contractual employees, mess and canteen workers. Around-the-clock emergency service, along with a 24x7 ambulance, is available. The Institute has a fully equipped modern clinical laboratory, the latest computerized ECG machine, a fully computerized digital 500mA mammographic compatible CR unit, and an X-Ray machine.

The College has playgrounds for all major sports. There is an air-conditioned gymnasium hall, an international level Swimming Pool, Diving Pool, 400 m grassy Athletic Track (8 lanes), two cemented Basketball courts with floodlights, four Volleyball courts, one Hockey ground, two football grounds, two Kho-Kho courts, two Kabaddi courts, three Softball grounds, two Cricket grounds, one Netball ground, one korfball ground, two synthetic lawn tennis courts, 8 grassy Lawn Tennis Courts, one Cinder Lawn Tennis Court. An international standard 10-meter shooting range is also functional on PU Campus. The University has been awarded the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy thirteen times for excellence in games and sports at the All India Inter-University level.
