The city of Coimbatore, known as the Manchester of South India, was home to a number of educational institutions in addition to a law school until 1979. In the entire state of Tamil Nadu, he had only one law college in Madras that offered legal education to students. In 1974, another law college was established in the temple town (Madurai) to cater to the needs of the people of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. As the demand for admission to law increased and his two existing law schools were already overcrowded, the government felt the need to open more law schools in different centers of the state. For the benefit of the people of the western and central parts of the state, a proposal has been submitted to the government to open two more law colleges each in an industrial city (Coimbatore) and a rock city (Tiruchirappalli). Appointed by the then Dean of the Faculty of Law, M.A. Sankaran, he was appointed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, G.O. Edited No.1407 Approved on August 2, 1979. Professor T Odiseshan of Madras Law College has been appointed as special officer for setting up a law college in Coimbatore. Government Law College, Coimbatore is located in GEE DEE Hopt.
