Jawaharlal Nehru University was came into existence on 22 April 1969. The bill was passed in Lok Sabha on 16 November 1966 for the university and on 22 April 1969 JNU Act came into force. It is world-renowned centre for teaching and research and the foremost university in India. With a Grade Point of 3.91 (on a scale of 4) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) university is ranked number one in India. In 2016 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Government of India JNU was ranked no 3 among all universities in India and no 2 in 2017. In the University at present there are ten Schools and four Special Centres. To the Indian university system JNU brought frontier disciplines and newer perspectives for old disciplines after its establishment. Students can explore their own creativity instead of reproducing received knowledge due to its excellent teacher-student ratio at 1:10.
