The inception of North Calcutta Polytechnic was Donbosco Polytechnic that begun in the Year 1963 as a State Govt. supported Polytechnic, Salesian Society of Northern India with their office at Don Bosco School, Calcutta, bought 22 bighas of land at 15, Gobinda Mondal Lane, Cossipore, Calcutta with a plan to run a polytechnic. Sri A.C.Sen, the Chief Inspector of Technical Education, Govt. of West Bengal approached to energize the thought and affirmed the arrangement in the year 1960-61. Green sign from the Govt. was gotten for developments of the structure and workshops. The cash required for consummation of the work was discharged by the State Government and when 80% of the work was finished, the Govt. communicated their craving to begin the classes structure August 1963 and allowed to concede 120 understudies in three parts of Engineering to be specific Mechanical-60, Electrical – 30 and Civil – 30. On thirteenth September 1963 fair Education Minister, Govt. of West Bengal, Mr. Rai Harendra Nath Roy Chowdhury introduced opening session of the Institute.
