Centre for Environment Education (CEE) was built up in 1984 as a Center of Excellence of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. As a national organization, CEE's order is to advance ecological mindfulness across the country. 

CEE creates inventive projects and instructive material and constructs limit in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). It is resolved to guarantee that Environmental Education (EE) prompts activity for practical improvement. It embraces field extends that exhibit and approve the job training can play in manageable advancement. CEE works with nearby, state, national and universal offices, associations and governments in India and in different nations to help make a practical future. CEE works intimately with Forest Departments and others in making translation projects and offices. With a broad system of more than 2 Lakh Colleges it embraces many College programs in association with various organizations. 

With accomplices including State Governments, Foundations and Corporates through CSR subsidizing, CEE has embraced extends in rustic and urban advancement, squander administration, biodiversity protection, quality improvement in College training, marine preservation and others. 

Working with the administration, CEE has made critical commitments to universal arrangements in the region of ESD. CEE has assumed a Nodal job in India for a few UN projects, for example, UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD – with UNESCO); Global Environmental Facility – Small Grants Program (GEF-SGP – with UNDP); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programs (with UNICEF); and numerous others. 

CEE is the Regional Coordinator for a few local activities like South Asia Youth Environment Network (SAYEN), and has worked with most nations in South and South East Asia on ESD.
