Cherra Theological College, presently known as John Roberts Theological Seminary was first settled in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in 1887 by the Welsh Calvinistic Foreign Mission (Presbyterian Church of Wales) to take into account the philosophical needs of Christians in Khasi Jaintia specifically and the entire of North East India by and large. Following 107 years at Sohra, the College was moved to the present site at Mawklot, Shillong and renamed John Roberts Theological Seminary, in memory of the establishing Principal, Rev.Dr.John Roberts, D.D.
The Seminary is currently situated in a delightful and grand town of Mawklot, Upper Shillong around 9 KMs from Shillong. The recently fabricated theological college complex houses the sanctuary, the workplace, study halls, staff rooms, the library, the file, the gathering corridor and the meeting room.
The theological school has separate inns for young men and young ladies. By and by, the inns for young men can suit up to 170 people.
