University was established under as a result of the generous generosity of Maharajradaraj Dr. Sir Kameshwar Singh and the then Chief Minister, Bihar Kesari Dr. Srikrishna Singh and the Governor of Bihar State, Dr. Zakir Hussain under the Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit Vishvavidyalay Act, 1960 (Bihar Act VI of 1960).
