With the establishment of the College of Veterinary Science in Bapatla in 1955 Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University marks its beginning which was shifted to Tirupati in 1957. Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh announced the establishment of the university during the golden jubilee celebrations of the college in September 2004. In the premises of the college on 15 July 2005 university was officially inaugurated by Reddy.

Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University offers various Undergraduate (UG) programs like ad B.Sc, B.V.Sc and B.Tech and Postgraduate (PG) programs such as M.Tech, MS, M.Sc and M.V.Sc along with the Ph. D programs in different branches of Veterinary, Dairy and Fishery Sciences, to the promote farmer oriented and need-based research to develop the harvest and post-harvest technologies.
Selection in all the bachelor’s courses will be done on the basis of an entrance examination of Andhra Pradesh called EAMCET. Admission to M.F.Sc. and M.Tech will depend on the marks in the B.F.Sc/B.Tech(Dairy) which will be 30% of the total weightage and on the performance in PG Entrance test which will be 70% of the total weightage.
The Ph.D. selection will be done on the basis of the marks in the entrance exam, master’s degree, bachelor’s degree and interview in the ratio 50:20:10:20.
· Admission to B.Tech, B.Sc. (Hons.), B.V.Sc. and B.Tech. programs is done through the state-level entrance test known as AP-EAMCET.
· Admission to the postgraduate courses is done through the comprehensive Entrance test followed by the counseling round conducted by the university.
· Students who are eligible for the Ph.D. program, need to sit for an entrance test conducted by the University and the final merit list will be prepared considering the marks obtained by the students in the entrance test as well as the previous qualifying examination.

· The State Government provided a scholarship of the 962/- per month to the BC and 1200/- per month to the SC & ST students besides reimbursing tuition and special fee to all eligible candidates including economically backward and minority students.
· In all, 403 students availed of scholarships to the tune of 38.7 lakhs during the year.
· National Talent Scholarship of 1000/- per month provided by ICAR, New Delhi was sanctioned to 42 candidates of other state students admitted under all the India quota of VCI/ICAR and the amount sanctioned was 4.20 lakhs.
Hostel: The University has separate hostels for the boys & girls. Both the hostels have their own separate canteen facility. Facilities in the hostels were improved by establishing modern kitchen with steam cooking facility and by providing the dining tables, chairs, utensils etc., for the mess. Cots, ceiling fans, and tables were provided in the rooms. Accommodation was provided to the parents, friends and visiting teachers.
Auditorium: SVVU has huge auditorium, which is used for any conference, events, convocation, and any special functions etc.
Computer center and Placement cell: Each college has a computer center to provide internet and other services to the staff and candidates. At CVSc, Tirupati 26 computers are available with the internet facility. At CVSc, Proddatur the library has 21 terminals with a server for providing a digital library. At NTR CVSc, Gannavaram there are 32 terminals with internet connectivity.
Library: The libraries in the constituent colleges of the university have a good collection of about 25,000 books, 70 National Journals, 54 International Journals, 138 Periodicals and Monthly Journals, 9,074 back volumes, 1851 Thesis of which 610 have been digitalized and 238 video lessons.
In addition, facilities such as internet access, CD-ROM search services (Database services), and reprography services, literature search using EBSCOHOST and Science Direct are available. Web OPAC Data Entry, Bar Coding, Labeling, Closed Circuit TV Cameras, and Air Conditioners, Automation and Solar Inverters etc., are available in the Libraries. About 80 to 90% of library functions like as purchase, lending etc., have been computerized.
