What is  ANM?

ANM stands for Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery course which is a job oriented course. It is a 2 years long Diploma program which specially focuses on the treatment of women, children and old age people. It often varies from 1 to 3 academic years according to different colleges.

To train students and make them capable of taking up nursing practice in rural areas is the main aim of the course. ANM Diploma holders may also work in an urban setup. With a minimum aggregate of 45% marks in 10+2 level of education is the minimum eligibility to pursue the ANM Course. Course Details 

It is a Diploma Level course known as ANM course. 

Duration

The course is 2 years long. 6 months are dedicated towards an internship in 2nd academic year. Successful candidates may register themselves as a registered nurse after completing this course.

Age limit

Age of the candidate should not be less than 17 years of age and not be more than 35 years of age.

Educational qualifications

Candidate who wants to take admission in ANM should have passed 10+2. Science and Arts stream are the most preferred ones according to the website of Indian Nursing Council. Minimum aggregate marks can be different from one institute to another.

Admission Process for ANM

Most of the institutes give admission to candidates based on the marks scored by them in 10+2 board examination as they follow the ‘direct admission’ process. Seats are allotted to deserving applicants. Private screening tests and interviews are also used in the admission process in case of some reputed institutes.

Some Nursing Colleges also conduct entrance test followed by a round of PI (Personal Interview) and students get admission on the base on performance in the entrance exam.

Job Prospects

Pay Packet

Nurses can earn a monthly salary that is in the range of Rs 7,000 to Rs 17,000 who are new to this profession. Highly experienced nurses may earn up to Rs 72,000 per month.
