On the recommendations of the Central Sanskrit Commission appointed by the Government of India during 1950s, a Central Sanskrit Institute was established at Tirupati in 1961 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in partial fulfilment of the recommendations, for the preservation and propagation of Traditional Sanskrit learning combining it with the modern methods of research. The Government of India constituted an autonomous registered body called ‘Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha Tirupati Society’ for the administration of the institution. The foundation stone for the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha was laid by the then Vice-President of India , Dr.S.Radhakrishnan on 4th January, 1962. About forty two acres of land at the foot of the Seven Hills, Tirumala was leased out by the T.T.D. Trust, then headed by Executive Officer, Dr.C.Anna Rao along with a munificient donation of Rs.10 lacs towards construction of buildings.

The Vidyapeetha Society has had a galaxy of successive chairmen who were well known public figures – Sri Patanjali Sastry, former Chief Justice of India being the first, followed by Prof.V.Raghavan, a reputed Indologist and Sri M.Ananthasayanam Ayyangar, former Speaker of Lok Sabha. Dr. B.R. Sharma was the Founder, and also acted as the Director from 1962 to 1970. Later the post of Director was changed into that of Principal. Sri Venkata Raghavacharya, Dr.Mandan Mishra, Dr.R.Karunakaran, Dr. M.D. Balasubramanyam and Prof. N.S. Ramanuja Tatacharya served the institution in various capacities. Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha came under the aegis of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan– an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education in April, 1971. Despite the challenges of the modern world, it has grown from strength to strength as a premier Institution for Sanskrit learning and research in India . During the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1987, Sri P.V.Narasimha Rao, the then Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India announced the decision of the Government to elevate its status to that of a Deemed University.

National Sanskrit University( previously Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth) 

National Sanskrit University, earlier called as Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha is a central university in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. 

The school was established in year 1956 under the Ministry of Education by the Government of India to propagate Sanskrit studies, traditional Sastras and Pedagogy. 

In considering its achievements and potential for research in the Traditional Sastras the University was given the status of Center of Excellence in Traditional Sastras during the X plan period in year 1989. 

In March 2020, the Indian Parliament passed the Central Sanskrit Universities Act, 2020 to upgrade the Rashtriya Samskrita Vidyapeetha, as a deemed to be university to a central university as a National Sanskrit University, along with 2 other universities Central Sanskrit University and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University. 

The objectives of the University shall be:

1. to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional, research and extension facilities to the promotion of the Sanskrit language. and such other branches of learning as it may deem fit;

2. to make special provisions for the integrated courses in humanities, social sciences and science in its educational programs;

3. to take appropriate measures for promoting the innovations in teaching-learning process and interdisciplinary studies and research;

4. to educate and train the manpower for the overall development, promotion, preservation and research in the field of Sanskrit and Sanskrit traditional

subjects.

GENERAL ADMISSION RULES

1. The aspirants seeking admission must send the application in the prescribed form. The application form should be filled in by the aspirant in his her own hand and signed. The declaration should be signed by the student and by the parent or guardian.

The candidates should enclose the following documents along with the application, failing which the application will be summarily rejected.

Duly attested Xerox copies of the following certificates.

• Provisional or Original pass certificates of the last qualifying exam

Marks secured in each examination right from

Matriculation/SSC/OSLC

to the last qualifying exam

• Date of birth (DOB)certificate

• Study certificate

• Caste Certificate

• Conduct certificate

2. Incomplete applications or those received after the due date will be rejected. The office of the Institute will not be held responsible for the delay of application forms sent by the post.

3. Candidates will be admitted to the Institute in accordance with the rules governing eligibility, merit, good conduct etc., as determined by the University from time to time and as per the rules existing on the date of the actual admission after the interview.

4. The candidates should attend in person and produce the original documents along with 3 sets of photostat copies listed below at the time of the interview to be conducted on a specified date and time failing which he or she will not be considered for admission.

5. If the admission is offered, he or she shall pay the fee immediately failing which he/she shall forfeit the seat.

The next aspirant in the merit list will be considered for admission.

6. All the original certificates have to be deposited in the office at the time of admission.

7. The students are requested to retain sufficient (10 sets) xerox copies of their certificates with them in case they need it at a later date.

8. Admission will be confirmed after the personal interview and or the written exam of students, as the case may be.

9. No candidates will be permitted to appear for any other university exam during the period of study in the University.

10. The name of the candidate will be removed from the rolls or he or she may be expelled, if he or she participates in illegal, anti-national activities, anti-social activities, strikes etc.

Candidates will not be allowed to change the optional subject after 1 month from the date of joining.

11. The students must submit 2 copies of recent passport-size photographs at the time of admission.

12. The University reserves the right to run or not to run any study course during the year depending on the number of aspirants received for a particular course.
