The Government of Andhra Pradesh established Nalgonda University in the year 2007 vide Government Orders in G.O.19/HE (UE-II) Department, dt: 13/3/2007 by suitably amending the Andhra Pradesh Universities Act 1991 under Section-3(1) in L.A.Bill No.4 of 2007. The establishment of this university is part of the vision of the Government of Andhra Pradesh to promote access,lottery sambad equity and inclusiveness in Higher Education. This University has been renamed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh as Mahatma Gandhi University by amending the Schedule of Act 4 of 1991, which was published in the A.P. Gazette on April 28, 2008. The University Head Quarters were located in Nalgonda town during the reporting year 2010-11 and its permanent campus is being developed in 240 acres of land allotted to the University on the state highway (Nalgonda – Narketpally) at Anneparthy, 7kms from Nalgonda town.

Eligibility Criteria

In all the Faculties a candidate is eligible for registration/ admission into Ph.D course in a subject, if he/she 

• has obtained Master’s degree or Professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the Academic Senate of Mahatma Gandhi University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-Point Scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions. Further, a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade for the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Differently abled candidates.
• shall have qualified the NET/SLET/SET examination or awarded M.Phil in the concerned subject in regular mode from the University recognized by UGC.

Application Process

• Candidates can apply to all the courses at Mahatma Gandhi University either online, through the official website of the University or through the offline mode. Candidates have to submit duly filled in application form along with all necessary documents in university admission office on or before the last date with prescribed application fee.

Admission Process

• Admission to the doctoral courses at MGU will be done on the basis of scores obtained in the MGU-GET and based on performance in a personal interview. The shortlisted applications after scrutiny will be further processed for Ph.D admission/registration by the Ph.D Admission Committee chaired by Dean of the Faculty.
