About Industrial training institutes (ITI)
ITI stands for Industrial Training Institute and aims to provide vocational training for Indian students. These institutions are established under the General Administration of Employment and Training, the Ministry of Competition and Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Alliance Government.ITI courses (Industrial Training Institute Courses) are courses that provide training for technical and non-technical fields. The difference between ITI courses and other academic courses is that their goal is to provide faster employment opportunities after the 10th or 12th class. These courses are specifically for trading, thus imparting basic skills that are important for trading. All ITI courses are under the responsibility of the Directorate General of Training and Employment (DGET) of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Most ITIs are operated by government agencies or government auxiliary agencies. However, some private institutions are also authorized to offer ITI courses. After completing the course, candidates must take the All India Trade Test (AITT). Candidates who pass the exam will receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC).
Industrial training institutes (ITI) Course Overview
- As mentioned above, the main goal of the ITI course is to prepare candidates for the 12th or 10th class in the industry. This will generate a large number of qualified traders every year.
- Currently, almost every state in India has its own ITI and its own authority. The duration of these courses depends on their type and nature. Some courses can last as short as 6 months or as long as 4 years.
ITI courses are roughly divided into two types.
- Engineering/Technical Industries
- Non-technical Industries
Engineering courses are purely technical in nature. The basic knowledge revolves around various fields of science and mathematics. On the other hand, non-technical courses focus on a combination of skills, such as language, soft skills, and department-specific skills.
Industrial training institutes (ITI) Eligibility Criteria
- Qualifications are course-specific, but most ITI courses require candidates to pass a level 12 exam or equivalent. Some other ITI courses may require the eighth pass. In other words, the qualifications are required to pass from level 8 to level 12. Some courses are also specifically provided for female candidates.
Industrial training institutes (ITI) Admission Process
- In view of the number of courses and ITIs in each state, the registration window varies from state to state, but the admissions process in all states is grade-based and students must pass a written exam. This applies to most governments and government-funded institutions. Some private institutions are also known as direct enrollment.
